Description

Dashpur was the ancient city of Avanti (Western Malwa), which is modern Mandsaur situated in the northwest of present-day Madhya Pradesh. Whenever empires were established in North India in the ancient era of Indian history, Avanti was often a province of them. Dashpur used to lie in it and sometimes there was also a unit of governance there.

The marking of Lord Shiva before Ujjayini is believed to be on the coins of Dashpur, such a currency is the opinion of scholars. Later it was copied by Ujjayini.

Dashpur lead currency

Small coins made of lead metal were prevalent in the Dashpur unit, various animal figures or other symbols were found on them. Marking of elephants, lions, deities etc. is also found.
