Description
Bielefeld, a textile town, produced an extraordinary number of odd material banknotes during the Germany monetary crisis leading up to the destructive hyper-inflationary times of 1922 and 1923. Paul Halke (not sure of the spelling) was the president of the bank, Stadtsparkasse Bielefeld, and as an ultra-nationalist who took immeasurable offense at the treatment of Germany by the allies, he initiated the broad issue of non-paper currency. He actively sought out artists to convey his messages and was deeply involved in the design of the currency.
